Training Groups

The 2014 will be structured just like 2013. There are three different groups, each with its own benefits and requirements.

Competition Team

This group is for 13-19 year olds who have decided to make triathlon their primary sport during the training season. While triathlon experience is preferred, as well as some competitive swimming experience, it is not required. The main requirement is commitment and dedication to the sport and to the team.

If your goal is to become a nationally ranked triathlete, then this is your group. Our training plan will center around the USAT Elite Cup and National races.

Note: You will not be expected to quit a high school sport that overlaps with our season (such as track & field). If you are on a track and field team, one practice per week is waived, but you must attend all other workouts for the week.

Cost: $100/month

Requirements

  • Mandatory attendance at all practices (5-6 practices per week)
  • Must race in the Monroe Elite Cup Race
  • Junior Elites (ages 16-19) must compete at Nationals if you qualify

Benefits

  • First Priority with sponsor provided items and discounts
  • First Priority with advanced training equipment, such as CompuTrainers
  • High level of coach interaction for establishing and achieving goals, advanced skill development, and benchmark testing

Required Equipment

  • Road Bike
  • Triathlon-style bike shoes
  • Wetsuit
  • RockSteady Swim Kit (hand paddles, pull buoy, snorkel, fins), which can be purchased through the team's swim sponsor at a significant discount.

Experience Triathlon Group

The Experience Triathlon Group is for 'newbies', between the ages of 13 and 17, who have very little triathlon experience and want to check out the sport. Skill development in all areas will be our focus. The level of training and expectations will be less than the Competition Team.

Cost: $75/month

Requirements

  • Attend 3-4 workouts per week, with at least one being a mid-week practice, and our Saturday workout.
  • Monroe Cup race is optional

Required Equipment

  • Road Bike

  • RockSteady Swim Kit (hand paddles, pull buoy, snorkel, fins), which can be purchased through the team's swim sponsor at a significant discount.
