NCAA Approves Women's Triathlon As An Emerging Sport!

In January, 2014, the NCAA approved Women's Triathlon as an emerging sport. This is a huge development forward for junior triathlon. At this point, there are many more questions than answers about how it will all take shape, but one thing is certain -- it will most certainly generate much more interest in junior triathlon clubs.

This is especially true given one known fact about this new college sport -- like the Olympics, the racing format will be draft-legal. Right now the only place juniors have the opportunity to train in this format is through USAT's Junior Clubs -- particularly the High Performance Teams (which RockSteady became in 2013 -- currently the only one on the Northwest!). Also, the only draft-legal races are the Elite Cup Series, which are a series of three races around the country culminating in the Junior Elite Nationals in August. The Northwest is very fortunate to host one of these Cup races in Monroe, WA the third week in June.

We will continue to provide information on this exciting development as the process gets underway. For now, you can click here to read USAT's official announcement.
